A Spiritual Trip

I decided to start my religious trip this year with my siblings, in our beloved country Indonesia. Coincidentally, I have nothing to do this year while processing my thesis, as well as my sister and brother who finished their senior and junior high school this year. A spiritual trip, just the 3 of us. What a best moment!

As Buddhist, we celebrate Vesak Day 2558 Buddhist Era / 2014 this May, 15th. Every year I always heard about the crowd of Vesak celebration in Borobudur, but never feel it by myself. I was dream it since long time ago...and, it just happens this year! How I can tell that...oh it's so amazing feeling that I can't explain.
BOROBUDUR!
One of the famous 7 wonders of the world...

You'd better wear white clothes to make it peaceful and pure...

It's not about Borobudur trip, NO, it's not my first time go there. I've already 2-3 times visit this temple. But more special...it's about Vesak trip. My very first Vesak trip honestly. I came to Borobudur this year to join the Vesakha Puja ritual, procession, and celebration.

I expected it will become a fully spiritual event, where peace and calmness. Obviously, my expectation and the reality is not the same. The newspapers are true all this time! It was very very very crowded. All Buddhism around the world are here! Not only Indonesian, but from India, Tibet, Myanmar, Cambodia, Thailand, Vietnam, Sri Lanka, China, and also westerns. The most impressed me is, a lot of people non-Buddhism even there to join the ritual. Wow!

The event was held from H-1 before, until the end of the night.
The procession start from Mendut temple, marched up to Borobudur. Poorly, it was rainy :( So messed up and the procession are delayed. But I heard that every year has rainy when Vesak celebration in Borobudur, so the rain should have been predicted by the committee and not too disrupt. Many umbrella sellers are around, but they sell it too expensive although the umbrella isn't in the good condition. So for your preparation, next you should bring your own umbrella, rather than the sunscreen here -___-

While waiting for the rain, the event still run under the big hood, although the big hood can't accommodate us all. The Indonesia's vice president, Sri Sultan Hamengkubuwono as Yogyakarta's governor, monk, and also some leaders delivered the opening speech. There's some entertainment too such as drama and traditional dance.

After that, we all back to each mini hood to pray together. FYI, Buddhist are divided into some sects such as Theravada, Tantrayana, Mahayana, Maitreya, Buddhayana, and many more. Too much, too crowded, and we were totally confused how to join in. Finally I decided to join into Theravada sect, even though not very similar to our sect as usual, but in general it's same I think.

Around midnight, all sects are gathered together at the main altar. Vesakh time for this year is 02.15.37 WIB. So along that time, we do meditate. For sure, I really enjoy this moment when everyone is doing meditation. I can feel the earth, the atmosphere of Vesak brings a classic energy, quite, cool, peace, calm, and natural.

The main altar at 02.15.37 WIB

Before the end of event, the final agenda is...Wishing Lampion! Write down your wishes on the lantern's body, don't forget to wishing your Mom & Dad and the big family too.
I think it's the most favorite agenda, when 1000 white lanterns were flown into the sky, sparkling as the stars. So beautiful! Even though the sky was foggy because of towards the dawn.

Fly...fly...high...higher to Nirvana

Out of the topic, actually when in Yogya, I already have the appointment with some friends to meet up in Borobudur. Coincidentally they are there too this year to celebrate Vesak Day. But guess what... I even didn't meet a single one of them that day, even though we keep in communication via bbm/line during that day. It seems very difficult to meet someone, because it's very crowded and crammed. But the funny thing is, we can meet a tourist who stay in the same hotel with us in Yogya for many times in Borobudur, without any appointment. Hahaha maybe it called 'destiny'!

Next, we should come back here, or even continuing our spiritual journey to another country to celebrate Vesak Day. I'm thinking about Thailand, Myanmar, Vietnam, or Cambodia, maybe?

If you're a Buddhist, Vesak celebration in Borobudur is a must. You could see the different sects all in one together, and understanding the differences. Buddhist isn't only about Chinese, Javanese, or Hindustan... Buddhist are universal.
If you're non-Buddhist, well just come in. It's open for public, and you can find the cultural treasures of Indonesia, Bhinneka Tunggal Ika.
Happy Vesak 2558 BE!
Sabbe satta bhavantu sukkhitata
Semoga semua makhluk hidup berbahagia...

Style and Shameless

As you know, I'm a comedy-lover, especially for stand up comedy. In Medan, there's open mic session every Thursday night in 061 Bistro by @StandUpIndo_MDN community. So last Thursday I decided to go there with my best one. I think this cafe is very crowded every Thursday, because the peoples are so enthusiast in stand up comedy that is booming nowadays.

https://pbs.twimg.com/profile_images/455321783084658688/BntWzaoL.jpeg

We had a dinner and gossip first while waiting for the show. Just two of us, before I met the another friends there. Such a farewell party, because one of my friend, Ko Adhi, would moving to Jakarta to work. Good luck and success for your career, Ko!

There's always something funny in every open mic session, that can't found in special show. Open mic seems more informal, so the crowd was more relax and enjoyable. Sometimes, the crowd responding and commenting the local comic. Feels more intimate!
And now, I would to tell our silliness that night.
Beside of the comic mocked on us, that make we were very shy :( Maybe because of we were too happy or too enjoyed the comedy show, we just want to let go home and forgot to pay! Oh Nooooo! The waiter just following us into the parking area, and bring the bill for us. Huahhh, what a shameless!

Maybe next time, we should pay first before enjoy the comedy show. Before we forgot everything. It's a must!
Or maybe I wouldn't come to 061 Bistro for anytime soon -___-

Deal with The Jungle

Jadi ceritanya, gue sok-sokan pengen ikut petualangan alaala Sherina gitu deh.
Youth Camp
18-20 April 2014
di Taman Nasional Gunung Leuser (TNGL)

Kayaknya sih bakal seru, daripada long weekend di rumah aja kan bete, mending ikutan nelusurin hutan. Dan ternyata memang beneran seru, terlalu seru malah sampe hampir mati rasanya, taruhan nyawa brooo.

Selama 3 hari 2 malam gue nge-homeless di hutan. Dari awal perjalanan dengan mini bus sebenernya udah feeling nggak enak sih, ragu-ragu anatara jadi ikut-nggak-ikut-nggak (sebodo deh uang pendaftarannya hangus sekalian. Nyokap pun udah nasehatin gue mendingan nggak usah ikut aja. Dodol yaa. Secara gue sebenernya panitia juga sih, jadi rada nggak enak sama temen-temen lainnya kalo gue nggak jadi ikut. The power of kejebak!

Hari pertama perjalanan masuk hutan ke area camping nggak susah sih, cuma sekitar setengah jam tracking masuk hutan, lewat jembatan gantung, mendaki gunung, lembah, lereng (whatever you named it!), nyeberang sungai. Masih standard lah istilahnya sih warming up.

Camp area

Nggak ketinggalan juga kami diajak menanam pohon sama pihak pengelola TNGL nya. 'One Man One Tree'. Sungguh sangat mulia.

Ya bayangin aja lah ya gimana percampuran zat-zat limbah manusia semua disitu. Hmmmm, bayangin!

Ternyata penderitaan hari itu nggak cuma soal mandi. Habis mandi, cobaan kembali datang melalui...hujan. Di hutan belantara, kalo cuaca hujan ya ribet. Satu-satunya tempat berteduh cuma tenda. Itupun tenda bocor sana-sini.

Tapi ternyata...prediksi hanyalah prediksi. Nggak nyaman banget rasanya, gatel!

Disitu kebersamaan 50 orang berasa banget.

Masih berani tidur disitu?

Hahaha. Kurang menyatu dengan alam gimana lagi coba? Pokoknya that day was so memorable, berkesan abis!

WOW! Kami siap menelusuri hutan dan sungai lagi! Untungnya sisa perjalanan tinggal sedikit lagi dan medannya nggak terlalu berat. Pas deh buat 'cooling down'.

Home sick! Tepar beraaaat.
Males cerita panjang lebar, pokoknya pulang ya pulang.

Jangan sampe kejebak acara-acara kayak ginian lagi! Jangan ajak gue adventure-adventure lagi. Cukuuuup!
Jangan sih mudah-mudahan~
